This geographic approach makes it possible to better understand regional dynamics while highlighting common challenges: climate adaptation, governance, resource management, and maritime transition.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"2518\" data-end=\"2570\"><em>1. The Pacific Ocean: The Nature and Resilience of Islands<\/em><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2572\" data-end=\"3262\">The first panel discussion addresses <strong>Adaptation strategies for climate change in the Pacific Islands.<\/strong> Although these territories contribute very little to global greenhouse gas emissions, they are already experiencing the most severe effects: flooding, coastal erosion, loss of biodiversity, and extreme weather events.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2572\" data-end=\"3262\">The speakers will analyze the potential of nature-based solutions\u2014such as mangrove restoration or sustainable coral reef management\u2014and their limitations in contexts subject to extreme climate stress. This is an essential discussion of the trade-offs between conventional infrastructure and ecological approaches.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"3264\" data-end=\"3317\"><em>2. From Mayotte to the Scattered Islands, via R\u00e9union and the <strong>TAAF<\/strong>, these protected areas serve as bastions of biodiversity. Initiatives such as the network <strong>Mihari<\/strong> In Madagascar, for example, the IRD\u2019s research on the movement of marine species offers insights for rethinking their governance at the regional level.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"3871\" data-end=\"3927\"><em>3. The Atlantic Ocean: Understanding and Managing Sargassum<\/em><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3929\" data-end=\"4549\">In the Caribbean, massive sargassum blooms are disrupting ecosystems, the local economy, and the lives of residents. This roundtable discussion will examine the origins of these \u201cbrown tides,\u201d their link to climate change, and, above all, the responses needed to address them.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3929\" data-end=\"4549\">From forecasting arrivals to their economic valuation, the approaches discussed combine scientific innovation, intermunicipal governance, and citizen engagement. This award, inspired by the competition <strong>\u201cMy Thesis in 180 Seconds\u201d<\/strong>, which recognizes original work on ecological, economic, and social transitions in France\u2019s overseas territories.
